Description
This frame has a foliate sight edge with a sand panel rising in an ogee profile with a delicate foliate motif between extended corner and center elements with scolling leaf motifs in the Louis XIV style. Original gilded finish with rub through to the bole and a pale wash over. This style of finish is often referred to as “Montparnasse” frames supposedly after the Russian artist who designed them who lived in that quarter of Paris in the early 20th C.
