18th C. European carved, gold leaf “Canaletto” reverse profile frame

Description

This frame has a foliate sight edge rising in an upward curve with corner and centers carved with leaf sprigs and flowers. Between these are the unadorned, curved panels. The profile drops down in a cove to a stylized twist design and band of leaves at the back edge with narrow flat sides. Original gilding. These frame are named after the 17th C. Venetian artist Antonio Caneletto whose art is often found in these style of frames.
